You may lose some top-of-mind visibility, and the first few posts after a long break may need time to rebuild momentum. But your audience does not reset to zero, and good older content may still be discoverable.
The bigger cost is usually psychological. A short break becomes six months because returning starts to feel like a special announcement. You do not need one. Just post again.
If you know a break is coming, keep your profile current and continue light participation through comments or messages if that feels easy. But do not create a complicated maintenance routine simply to satisfy an imagined algorithm.
Consistency helps because memory compounds. Missing a period of posting does not erase your reputation.
