How do I handle "you're too expensive"?

Most of the time that's not about price. It means they don't see enough there to justify it. That's a value problem wearing a price costume.

In short
  1. 1.
    So don't drop the number
  2. 2.
The answers tell you whether it's really price, or whether you just didn't make the case
  3. 3.
If it genuinely is budget, don't discount
  4. 4.
And some people are just not your buyer

So don't drop the number. Ask a question instead. What are they comparing it to? What would this need to do for them to be worth it? What are they spending on this problem right now?

The answers tell you whether it's really price, or whether you just didn't make the case.

If it genuinely is budget, don't discount. Change the shape. Smaller scope, split payments, a starter version. Same value, different structure.

And some people are just not your buyer. That's fine. If nobody ever says you're too expensive, you're too cheap.
