When one person appears repeatedly in your feed discussing a topic, their name becomes easier to retrieve when you think about that subject. We often mistake that availability for evidence that they are the most knowledgeable person available.
Platforms intensify the effect because visible people accumulate followers, invitations, podcast appearances and social proof, which create more visibility and then more authority signals.
The confusion is understandable: genuinely good experts also become visible. The problem is assuming the relationship always works in reverse.
A useful distinction is that visibility answers, “Who comes to mind?” Expertise answers, “Who has the knowledge and judgment to handle this well?” Sometimes the same person wins both questions. Sometimes they are completely different people.
